[Daily Brain Teaser] Dream Riddle Solution - 30 September

Dream Riddle Solution - 30 September

Two brothers were watching a horror film on video late one night. One brother dozed off and dreamed that he was being chased by the crazy man from the movie, who was trying to kill him. In the dream, he hid in a cupboard. There was no sound except his heart pounding, and he had no idea where his crazed captor was. He was terrified! At that moment, the video finished, and his brother put his hand on the shoulder of his sleeping sibling to wake him. The shock at that tense moment was enough that the sleeping brother suffered a massive heart attack and died instantly. True or false?

[ChineseSkiClub] New Google Group Seems Good

I am trying Google Group's new version.  It seems better than that of the old version.  I would suggest everyone start using the new version:

BTW, after start using the new version, you still can switch back to the old version anytime you want with a single click.

'You're right!', said Lily.

[Daily Brain Teaser] Mathematical Problem - 26 September

Mathematical Problem  - 26 September

This odd little problem in domestic arithmetic was sprung by the cook upon Mrs. Smith when she wanted to know what the grocer charged for such small eggs.

'I paid twelve cents for the lot,' replied Bridget, 'but I made him throw in two extra ones, because they were so little, and you see that made them cost one cent a dozen less than his first asking price!'

Tell now how many eggs she received for her twelve cents?

[ChineseSkiClub] Re: Alaska Cruise

Q&A:

Q - Can we see Aurora at the end of August at Fairbank?
The "Northern Lights", at their most dazzling from December to March
when nights are longest and the sky darkest, can usually be seen even
as far south as Juneau.
But it is very cold during those months.

A - Yes, I agree with you that the best time to see Aurora is mid
winter, while there will be nothing else to visit/see and nothing else
to do at that time. Why is this trip so special? It combines in one
trip everything that you can do and you want to do in Alaska. If you
go there in June and July, you won't be able to see aurora. If yo go
there in a full moon night, you won't see aurora. I have checked the
moon phase schedule and found the best shot is the time of this tour!
I even called some Alasaka's tour companies and confirmed that we
would have a great opportunity to see the aurora because of the total
days that we cover there. One more important thing is that next year
is the best year (11-year cycle) to see aurora.

The trip will consist of:
1. Pre-cruise tour - Vancouver 1 night.
2. Cruise - At sea focusing on glacier seeing for 7 nights.
3. Post-cruise tour - Anchorage 1 night.

5. Post-cruise tour - Glass-domed train to Fairbanks for aurora

You don't have to take the whole trip, for the pre-/post-cruise tours
are optional. We will have a great opportunity to see northern light
in this trip along the way or in Fairbanks because:
http://wikitravel.org/en/Northern_Lights
According to WikiTravel, 2013 will be the year having the maximum
solar activity in its 11-year cycle. IMHO, if you miss it, your next
best opportunity will be another 11 years.

[ChineseSkiClub] Re: Alaska Cruise

I am done with the research! This trip will be a once-in-a-lifetime
trip! It will include:
1. 7 nights at sea cruise focusing on glacier watch.
2. 3 nights post-cruise tour to Denali National Park in glass train,
and...
3. Aurora (northern light) seeing in Fairbanks.
We have 10 people going. I'll book the trip tonight.

It's still much better than our local area! Our snow season has only
3 months, and icy or slushy conditions are normal here.

north east canada has 4-month season at most, and that has to be a really good year. if you are talking about the nicely packed surface it would be about a month, before that it is ice, after that is slash

I was just that I will miss out on a sale, but I don't think I would spend any money on gears this year, just for the fun of looking ;)

Thinking Puzzle  - 18 September

You are driving down the road in your car on a wild, stormy night, when you pass by a bus stop and you see three people waiting for the bus

An old lady who looks as if she is about to die.

An old friend who once saved your life.

The perfect partner you have been dreaming about.

Knowing that there can only be one passenger in your car, whom would you choose?

[ChineseSkiClub] Re: Alaska Cruise

800 including tips (I think) but not airfare. it was a triple room though. I think it was pretty mild, low to mid 10s. There is one tirp from Vancouver, so if you want to visit around, that could be your starting point at the end of the pre cruise trip. it is a nice city. I am not sure about Denali.

Thanks for sharing the information!  $800 all inclusive is a very good

temperature in May there still cold or mild?

I am wondering if I want to take pre-cruise trip to Victoria in
Vancouver and post-cruise trip to Denali.  If I skip Victoria, I can
still visit there next time when I ski Whistler.  However, I don't
know if I will go back to Alaska again if I miss out Denali.

[Daily Brain Teaser] Maths Time Puzzle - 17 September

Maths Time Puzzle  - 17 September

A large water tank has two inlet pipes (a large one and a small one) and one outlet pipe. It takes 3 hours to fill the tank with the large inlet pipe. On the other hand, it takes 6 hours to fill the tank with the small inlet pipe. The outlet pipe allows the full tank to be emptied in 9 hours.

What fraction of the tank (initially empty) will be filled in 0.64 hours if all three pipes are in operation? Give your answer to two decimal places (e.g., 0.25, 0.5, or 0.75).
