Remixing the Art of Social Change

"The Remixing the Art of Social Change: A Hip-Hop Approach International Teach-In" is a gathering of organizations, artists, and scholars that utilizes hip-hop culture to promote social change and challenge how hip-hop is used as a tool. The teach-in previously convened in Chicago and San Francisco to highlight three key elements: (a) instilling a pilot program founded in hip-hop that pursues entrepreneurship, employability, and post-secondary education; (b) shaping the larger hip-hop non-profit community through leadership development, capacity building, and collaboration; and (c) shedding light on artists and activists already within the hip-hop community.

This year, we are bringing the convention back to Washington, D.C. as a kick-off event for the start of the 11th Annual Hip-Hop Theatre Festival, a widely recognized cornerstone of the D.C. hip-hop performing arts & cultural community. Having worked with the Hip-Hop Theatre Festival on the Freshest of All Time B-Boy and B-Girl jam in previous years, Words Beats & Life's International Teach-In will be hosting more than 300 people and representing more than 50 organizations from across the country.
